Learning Wisdom Through Tribulation

“The greatest affliction of the cosmos is never to have been afflicted. Mortals only learn wisdom by experiencing tribulation.” (47:8.12)

The lack of experiencing hardship and suffering is one of the biggest problems in the universe. If we were to never experience pain or challenges, we would never gain wisdom or grow in character. Adversity and difficulties are necessary for each of us to learn and gain wisdom.

Without experiencing affliction, we would never understand the value of overcoming challenges or the importance of personal growth. The struggles and hardships we face in life are essential for us to learn and mature as individuals.

When we encounter difficulties, we often make mistakes, and these mistakes can provide us with valuable lessons. For instance, imagine a student who has failed an exam. The experience of failing may cause the student to feel upset or disappointed, but it may also motivate them to work harder and learn from their mistakes. Through this process, the student can gain a better understanding of the material and develop new study habits that will help them succeed in the future.
