Hungering for Righteousness

“Happy are the poor in spirit, the humble, for theirs are the treasures of the kingdom of heaven. Happy are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (140:3.3; see also Matthew 5:3-12)

Jesus teaches us that those who are poor in spirit or humble, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be blessed or happy. He says these people will receive treasures from the kingdom of heaven and will be filled with righteousness.

True happiness comes from humility, a hunger for righteousness, and a desire to live a spiritual life. It is not about material wealth or possessions but about the state of our hearts and minds. In other words, genuine happiness and contentment in life come from within rather than from external sources such as wealth. The state of our heart and mind is more important than our material things.

Humility, in this context, means having a modest opinion of ourselves and not seeking self-promotion or attention. Having a hunger for righteousness means having a deep desire to live a morally upright and righteous life, walking according to God’s will, and doing what is right for others and ourselves. Living a spiritual life refers to having a connection to something greater than ourselves, such as a genuine, heartfelt belief in God the Universal Father and living according to His commandments.
